Why I won't be getting Skyrim

on Wednesday, 02 November 2011. Posted in Blog, Games, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

It seems that Skyrim is all the rage. I keep hearing everybody talk about it. There has been war brewing even to declare its supremacy over Dark Souls. I haven't played either but I would rather play Dark Souls.

I do not want to play Skyrim at all. I never wanted to play Oblivion either. "Are you bonkers?" I am sure will be the question of the day. No, I am smart.

Now before you get all pissed off and assume I am calling you dumb of which I will neither comfirm nor deny, hear me out. It all stems from Bethesda. I have played their games before, most notably Fallout 3.

The recent Elder Scrolls games follow the same type of gameplay as the same game engine is used. And there lies in the problem. I love Fallout 3. There are a lot of things good about it. But, there are so many bad. And really, it is the developers fault. For instance, both Oblivion and Fallout 3 were known for being extremely buggy even to the point of game crashing. Before I continue, I should redirect blame from the developers to the companies involved. The developers are or at least should be happy to fix major bugs before release. But, that was not done and the gamer was the one to suffer.

If it wasn't for the storyline and the setting and possibly VATS, I would have absolutely hated Fallout 3. You had to walk almost to much. You walked around like a robot. Every 5 minutes the game crashed on me it seems and always at the worst possible time. The monsters were cool and fun to kill. I enjoyed leveling up and avoiding radiation. Luckily, that was there or I would have stopped playing Fallout 3 for good. There were quite a few times where I said "Screw this!!!!"

Now, Skyrim is a completely different game setting and storyline. I love fantasy and the dark ages type settings. But, putting what is Fallout 3 into that just doesn't excite me at all. I am constantly stuck with thinking about all the bugs. There are those terrible animations. The graphics were overall not that stellar even for the time. "Oh but there are dragons!" If you buy a game based on dragons you are an idiot

Who knows though, I might try it out and find that the game isn't buggy and the storyline and setting aren't that bad. Hell, I might even enjoy walking for 4 hours before even getting anywhere *sarcasm*. I really do hope I am proven wrong. Just I don't see it happening.

Human Augmentation: An Interesting Look

on Sunday, 28 August 2011. Posted in Blog

I happened to have gotten my hands on Deus Ex: Human Revolution. And today, I happened to come across a video that was meant to help promote the game as well as enlighten on where we are with "augmentations."

The guy with the camera eye showcases on where at the present time humanity is with prosthetics, cybernetics, and augmentation.

Overall, I found it pretty interesting and enlightening 12 minutes. I highly suggest that anyone that likes the aforementioned topics or even Deus Ex to watch it.

Pure Awesome Pokemon

on Sunday, 14 August 2011. Posted in Blog

This really doesn't have to do much with gaming. Granted, the topic at hand does have several games. But, this post is to showcase some pretty badass art.

The art features Pokemon. Every gamer should know what Pokemon are. In my younger years, I was a huge Pokemon nut. I bought my game boy color just so I could get a half assed color Pokemon game. I collected Pokemon cards. I had the largest collection at my school. I was even in a Pokemon league where I got gym badges and everything. While I am not into it as much anymore, hell I haven't bought a Pokemon game since Advance, I still appreciate Pokemon and still have my favorites.

Before I say anymore, I stumbled upon this from other gaming site that I frequented. I don't like to post these type of posts normally but this is just that awesome.

There is a guy on devinatart(essentially a social network for artists) who has redone some of the Pokemon with is own twist. He tends to put a more realistic touch on them while also at the same time making the Pokemon grotesque. The Pokemon that this artist has done is pretty impressive.

My favorite is the Gengar. Not so much that it is the coolest looking(it is) but mainly because Gengar is my favorite Pokemon of all time. So, my opinion is hugely biased. You can see the Gengar above.

But, as of right now he has about 20 different Pokemon done and I suggest you check it out. If you go on deviantart, check out SoupAndButter and his Pokemon Revamp work.

We Are Back

on Wednesday, 10 August 2011. Posted in Blog

Well, clearly we are back online. There has been a lot of changes and improvements. First, the template is different. Not really sure why I did this. I guess I figured that since I had to take it down might as well change it up a bit to represent all the other changes and updates.

Technical Difficulties

We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties. Hopefully these problems are resolved soon.

Update To Organization

on Wednesday, 03 August 2011. Posted in Blog

Well, we finally have done it. Or should I say I have finally done it :P. We are now going to be organizing our articles a different way. We will still do the platform based categories but each article will now also have a specific game category. This will be a test right now. This could end up being a downfall. However, we are willing to give it a try. The other option would be to have each article have the game as a tag but that doesn't fit in with the grand scheme of things.

Now, you really won't notice this completely for quite a while. One, we have to go through each article now and assign it to the additional category. Two, we need to get more articles based on each game.

As a result of this change, we are going to be changing up the home page of the site. Our game article showcase will be the first change. And then, we are of course going to have to change how we do our menu system.

This change could mean a lot. This could allow each article to be assigned to additional categories such as reviews and previews to even futher help in finding what you want. But ultimately, we want to keep the site easy to navigate as well.

Big News Fast

on Wednesday, 08 June 2011. Posted in Blog

Right now, gaming sites are bombarding their reader base with news. With E3 and the preconference, news is a plenty. And, if you are a gaming site that is established and has the funs, you have some of your writers going to the conference to be the first to get all that news. MyIceNine is not capable of doing that right at this point. I blame you. You haven't told enough of your friends.

Irregardless, we are not going to be providing breaking news. Instead, we will offer our views on what we feel is the biggest for each of the Big Three. This opinions are not to be set in stone. But, we are omnipotent so we will just assume we are right. Than, when we turn out to be wrong than we will just merely state that we knew this before but we needed to offer differing views throughout the reveal process so that we don't appear omnipotent.

You may not like what we are going to right. Well, to bad. We are based in a *cough* free *cough* country and we will say what we want to damn't.

Bad Ass Japan Relief

on Thursday, 19 May 2011. Posted in Blog

Now, before I say anything I just want to say that the 360 isn't a bad system. They just have a bad selection of games in my opinion. Well, a bad exclusive library. Argue all you want but it will never get you anywhere. Also, the 360 is inferior. If you see it differently, you are probably an idiot. The Wii is worse than the 360. They actually have a decent exclusive library. It helps when Nintendo makes most of the games for their system. However, not really that great of a console. Again argue all you want, not that great of system and in my book much worse than the 360.

So now, I can get to the point. Despite hacks that any corporation(don't fool yourself you moron) can succumb to(the hacker population is a powerful one) and despite other nuances the PS3 is a great system(IMO). Blu Ray is awesome. Easily swappable hard drives equals greatness. A GUI that makes a hell of a lot more sense is also included. But the greatest thing is that PS3 has awesome exclusives and they are numerous. The biggest in my book is God of War. I think a lot of people will agree with me on that last point.

Which is why I am really excited to bring this to everyone's attention that reads this website and also the reason why I had a lot more money. Sony and Santa Monica Studio are having a charity auction with the help of Play For Japan and eBay's charity thing. And frankly the items are badass. After this, I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Know that all items are or consist of signatures from the people that brought you God of War. Oh, clicking the images will bring you to their respective auctions.

At the posting of this, the auctions have roughly 3.5 days left. If you are interested, watch these items now!

What Would You Do With A Breach?

on Thursday, 28 April 2011. Posted in Blog

If you haven't heard, Sony had a little uh oh moment. The Playstation Network was intruded upon and some account information was taken. Some, wait, millions of different pieces of account information was taken. So much so, they are not even sure exactly what was taken.

So, let's look at this with two different perspectives. The first, what would you do if you had a network of millions of people and said network was hacked? Would you just play it off. Would you make it seem not as bad as it actually is? Would you have the testicles(or ovaries) to shut down the network until the problem was fixed?

I wouldn't do to much different than what Sony is doing. The only thing I really would change is from their routine is that I would have sent out a more warning notice sooner than they have. I am sorry, if I know my servers have been hacked I would have sent out information saying that all users should assume the worst. That way, no matter what, users can make damages are minimal. However, I can see why they might hold out but I definitely don't agree with it.

Now that you are thinking like a business man, let's change focus to the way of thinking of the consumer. Chances are that you are a consumer of Sony already. As such, you might be a PSN member. How are you reacting and if by chance you are not a member how would you react? Would you be blowing up on the Playstation Blog threatening lawsuits? Would be crying in a corner? Or would you be taking the necessary steps to make sure your credit/money is safe and if you were dumb enough to have the same password for everything making sure all your other accounts' passwords were changed? Hopefully, you are the third option.

The reason for this post is more so for those that have a one track mind. Just because you are on this side of the fence, it doesn't mean that things are the same on the other. Also, be sure to remember that Sony is an international corporation. They have directors upon directors and decisions are made as a group over meetings. They are not made on a whim. That privilege is bestowed upon you if you so wish.

Now That There Is Staff

on Tuesday, 26 April 2011. Posted in Blog

If you haven't realized, we have our first staff member. The great James! Anyways, I just wanted to say that now that we are starting to get some staff besides me, I will be getting a Staff section up. That way, after the Introduction has disappeared into the ancient tomes of lost posts, we will still know who is who and if they are cool.

If you have not read the post by James introducing himself, be sure to do so here.

An Introduction

on Monday, 25 April 2011. Posted in Blog

I suppose I should introduce myself sense I will be writing for this site so here goes nothing. My name is James but I also go by Sprinkles or Nithros (which is also my gamer-tag for Xbox 360 nudge nudge wink cough). It’s quite obvious what my hobbies are considering what kind of site this is and I don’t exactly have a preference to what I play as long as its fun for what genre it is. Well I suppose that’s a good enough of an introduction for now so all I will say for the end of this is I hope you guys reading my reviews and such will enjoy reading as much as I will enjoy writing them.

Cheap Game Capture

on Tuesday, 15 March 2011. Posted in Blog

This is kind of awesome to hear, especially since this a game website. Roxio has come out with a cheap solution to doing captures of game content. Currently, they have two different products. One for the 360 and PS3. Another for the PC. The latter is cheaper and allows higher resolution captures. Can you say awesome with us?

More Is Better, Right?

on Wednesday, 02 March 2011. Posted in Blog

I know, it is exciting and intense to hear the same guy drabble on about games and the such. Adding variety would be a crime! Good thing, MyIceNine doesn't care about such things. Or maybe, we are just being sarcastic.

Anywho, to get more articles, more variety, and more ninja MyIceNine will be getting possibly two more writers. I won't go to crazy into the details until they are set to write, In which case, a new blog post will be dedicated to getting to know them.

Starting A New Game

on Monday, 21 February 2011. Posted in Blog

So, tomorrow is the release of a new game known as Killzone 3.  I know, new games are released all the time. However, I usually don't think about it as much. But, I can't even get my reserved copy cause I have been taken out of state for my full time job. Naturally, I got to thinking. What do you do when you get a brand new game? Do you play and beat the single player? Do you just play until you are used to it and then jump on online multiplayer? Just start playing  online multiplayer? Do you even play online multiplayer? Do you play offline multiplayer in any of the orders previously mentioned? Do you strive for all the trophies or just let the game flow?

Personally, I play the single player until it is beaten. I don't even bother playing any form of multiplayer until it is done. Trophies are great and if I know of any of them off hand I will try and get them. However, trophies are not crucial to my gaming repertoire. Then, I jump on online multiplayer. Offline multiplayer may be taken advantage of but that is only if someone is like "Hey, let's play some *Title of Game*."  Than, I usually do not touch single player for quite awhile.

Just figured it would be an interesting blog post is all. And to those getting Killzone 3, see you on the battlefields somewhere in the near future.

Blast From The Past Series

on Friday, 18 February 2011. Posted in Blog

We are going to try and keep up with this new series. Games are awesome. New games get all the glory while old ones seemed to get lost in the past. So, we are doing this series to respark interest in those awesome forgotten games or get those who never bothered to play them to play them. Hopefully, this turns out to be a pretty great series. MyIceNine is great so there is little doubt about this series.
