To be frank, tower defense games are awesome. I have yet to find a tower defense game that I do not enjoy. So, when reading this take that into account. 

Epic War TD is a tower defense game for the iPhone. I would say it has a futuresque setting to it. Your enemies essentially come down to two groups, humans and aliens. And like any tower defense game, you build towers of defense along a path to kill off your enemy before they reach your fort.

As far as Tower Defense games go, this one really isn't all that expansive. There are only five towers. What is neat is that two of the towers can reduce the strength of either human or alien targets depending on the tower. This has to be unlocked later in the upgrades. Each tower has three aspects to it that can be upgraded 5 times each. To give an example, range and damage are the two most common ones. After you have upgraded a tower to what I figure to be 3 upgrades for each skill set, you can purchase the special ability. This changes between the different towers.

The setting of each level is very appropriate. They are all ravaged areas. Some are dessert like with just hardened ground that identifies the path of the enemy. Some are more urban. The settings look great on the Retina Display.

The enemy units look just as good. All seem to be of very high detail. Explosions are big and theatrical. Fleshy units erupt into a giant spout of blood. Overall, the game has the eye candy.

There are two versions of the game. There is a paid version and than there is a Ad Supported version. The Ad Supported version is free but has ads displayed. This is a little inconvenient as the ads take up a decent amount of screen real estate. Otherwise, there doesn't appear to be much else different between the two versions.
