Falling, Falling, Falling

on Thursday, 14 April 2011. Posted in iDevices, Falldown

Honestly, how can one find a game where ultimately all you do is fall down? Apparently, a lot.

There is this game called Falldown for the iPhone. There are several versions. The one, pictured above, offers a more modern and nice like.

The premise of the game is to guide a ball on its path downward. You have to get through obstacles and if you don't you stop falling and fail!

The game is quite addicting. There really is no problems with the game that I have found. The only complaint I will offer is the fact that some of the powerups you can get often end up in unreachable places. Really not a problem. But, it happens.

Before I conclude, there are three powerups you can get. One, multiplies your ball. In this case, you are guiding several balls down and the longer you keep the extras the more points you get. The second, turns your ball into a ghost and you fall through all the obstacles. The final is a power up that slows down the speed at which the obstacles move.

Anyways, I got the game for free and it was a well worth while download. You should definitely play this game!

Monopoly - Are You Going To Jail?

on Sunday, 27 March 2011. Posted in iDevices, Monopoly

One of my favorite board games of all time is Monopoly. Actually, it is probably my favorite at this point in time. So, it was only natural to eventually purchase the game for my phone.

Since I love the game so much, I am going to be pretty critical when playing a digital version of it. So, take this post with a grain of salt.

Overall, the game does what it should do. It plays exactly like the board game. Roll two dice and move your piece. Buy some properties. Get a monopoly. Purchase the coveted hotel.

Unfortunately, there are quite of few things one can find wrong. First, there are very few options. So a lot of the rule variations are not present. This isn't terrible but would be nice to change up the game a bit. And normally, Monopoly for the iPhone is 1.99 or so and that should mean you get more game.

My biggest complaints though stem from the fact that this game is the buggiest I have played on the iPhone so far. It is terrible. One day, the game froze 4 times and crashed 3. This doesn't happen consistently. But, it takes you out of the groove and is just plain frustrating.

I am not a big fan of the AI either. It just seems that they seem to make dumber deals with each other which ultimately screw you over. This is probably just my imagination but just something I noticed. There are ways around it though and so I can keep playing the game.

My final complaint is that the random number generator seems to be off and card drawing is off as well. It seems certain dice rolls happen way more often than they should. As I do have a coding background I feel this could be improved on. Also, when drawing cards from Community Chest and Chance I have found that cards are not put down to the bottom of the pile and there are far to few of them compared to the actual board game. I have seen the Get Out of Jail Free card drawn from the same set of cards twice in a row.

Now, do I recommend the game? I want to say yes but at this point I would stay clear. The price tag should mean a mostly bug free game and more options and other various things.

Street Fighter Kicks Tail

As I mentioned in a previous article, I would pay, download, play, and give the true go ahead or stay away to getting Street Fighter 4 for the iPhone. I actually bought the game as it was $.99 and because all proceeds were going to the disaster relief effort of Japan. I didn't even play the game right away after getting it downloaded.

However, after playing the game, I was quite impressed. This is the first fighting game I have played on the iPhone. My initial thoughts were that fighting games just would not be that good. I was horrendously wrong.

I naturally played as my favorite character Ken. I was able to execute most of his moves with relative ease. I thought it would be near impossible. I really haven't been able to find to much to complain about at all. Graphics may be a little sketchy but they really don't effect the game all that much.

This is a most definite buy and play for any iPhone gamer because it kicks some serious ass.

Egg vs Chicken vs Bugs

on Sunday, 13 March 2011. Posted in iDevices, Egg vs Chicken

The past week I went on a bit of a iPhone downloading of games as I was on the road again. One of the games I downloaded was Playfirst's newest addition Egg vs Chicken. I had a lot of fun with some of their other games so I thought it would be a wise choice.

The game revolves around aligning different colored eggs and then launching them at chickens so they do not make it to the eggs. There is a lot strategy that needs to take place, especially in the later levels. The game is pretty addicting and I would say overall fun with the right amount of challenge. I know a lot of iDevice games don't offer enough challenge.

However, the game is pretty new and I have encountered a lot of bugs. I have had the game freeze on me while in play. I have had it where the game gets stuck on the loading screen. And unfortunately, these bugs seem to happen quite often. It really makes me not want to play the game at times.

In the end, Egg vs Chicken could be a pretty good game. Unfortunately, there are far to many bugs yet. As such, I would recommend staying away from this game until these bugs are nearly nonexistent. So, stay away at least for a little while longer anyways.

Fruit Ninja!!!

on Tuesday, 22 February 2011. Posted in iDevices, Fruit Ninja

There are just so many games for the iDevices and they end up being super cheap. They usually are pretty simple. They usually are extremely repetitive. They usually are addicting. Does FuitNinja fit the bill?

There is both a "Lite" version and a paid version. I really suggest getting the Lite version to test it out. You should really do this with any App if you can.

So, the goal of the Fruit Ninja is to use your finger like a sword. You chop the fruit. You miss a fruit you lose a strike. You strike a bomb and it blows up and you lose. This is the main game type but all others are based off of this with other rules and variations.

The game is fun and challenging at first. Took me forever to get past 150. It is addicting. Don't ask me why, I have no idea. However, it didn't remain addicting for as long as other games. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. I had when an iPhone game takes up to much of my time cause I have better things to do and unfortunately my phone is always at my side. The temptation usually wins.

Should you play it? Yes. Should you buy it? It is $0.99, if you can't afford that than you shouldn't be owning an iDevice. So yes, you should buy it.

What The Hell Is Bocce-Ball

on Thursday, 17 February 2011. Posted in iDevices, Bocce-Ball

So, the other day I decided to check out the free games section of the App store for the iPhone. I periodically check the games section to see if any games strike my interest. I came across Bocce-Ball.

I believe this a lawn game originating in the United Kingdom. There is a whole movie based on this game(to some extent) called Black Balls. Look it up. It is a pretty decent movie.

Anyways, the game for iPhone is a pretty decent game. Might be boring to some. It keeps me busy. There are some problems with it though. I am not a bug searcher normally. So, I usually don't catch bugs. However, there are some very noticeable ones.

First, throwing the ball at different speeds doesn't always work the way it should. I try and throw it moderately fast and the ball maybe makes it halfway. However this isn't always the case and I have to wonder if it is just my screen. And then, if you throw a ball and it lands somewhat on another ball, balls glitch and appear in a different spot pretty weird. Ok, so those are the only two I really found. Again, not a bug guru.

So, should you play it? It is free. It can be fun. You should play it! Don't like it? No big deal. It was free!!!
