MechWarrior Online Is Official

on Tuesday, 01 November 2011. Posted in Platforms, PC, Games, MechWarrior Online

It has been two years since Piranha Games has released any information on the new MechWarrior game they are supposed to release. If you have been following the franchise at all, you saw the completely badass video they released those two years ago. Many a gamers were jizzing in their pants.

Well, now it is official. And, it is being called MechWarrior Online. This game is to be PC exclusive(absolutely no complaints here). The game is also set to be F2P and sounds like strictly online. Don't quote me though. This is both a good thing and a bad thing for me. F2P done right could expose the game to a lot more people. But, I loved the single player campaigns.

MechWarrior Online is obviously set in the Battletech Universe but will be around the 3048 era. The developers are saying this era will allow the game to flow with the style they want to do. Each day on Mechwarrior Online will be a day in our world and events will happen as they do in the story. Pretty exciting for me.

There isn't a whole lot of information yet. However, PC Gamer(bastards) seem to be getting a lot of exclusive info today so you will want to keep an eye on them for more information if I don't put it up on here.

Also, be sure to check out the official MechWarrior Online website here.

Steam Manniversary

on Friday, 14 October 2011. Posted in Platforms, PC, Games, Team Fortress 2

A lot of anniversaries it seems. This time Steam is celebrating their first Manniversary. What the hell is a manniversary you ask?

Steam has released their new Workshop. The Steam Workshop is a submission hub that they improved upon for community created content. The perk is that Valve will comment and rate the entries as well. We will call this part one to the celebration.

Part two actually is about the Manniversary. The Manniversary is for the Mann Co store. The Mann Co store is a store for the previously mentioned user created content. With it, they are updating the store and having a huge sale. They have an awesome epamphlet here for all the details. So check it out!

FYI, if you don't check it you are an idiot. The pamphlet cover is just pure awesome.

PS Vita Japanese Game Pricing: Should You Be Worried?

on Tuesday, 11 October 2011. Posted in Platforms, Vita

The PS Vita looks like it could be an amazing handheld. No doubt about that. But, the price will always come into play and especially so for a handheld.

Luckily, you can get a little bit of an idea on the pricing as some of the Japan release details have been released for some of the games. I am not going to bother putting it in Yen as we don't use such a currency. The USD equivalent will be given.

The good news for some is that the PSN downloads should be cheaper than the hard copy of the game. This difference is usually in the ballpark of around $5-7 cheaper. Which is pretty good.

Unfortunately, these Vita games seem to be expensive. Uncharted Golden Abyss will sell for $78 or $64 PSN. Katamari Damacy no Vita will be going for $65 or $58 on PSN.

One has to remember that these prices are probably going to change when they hit American shores. But, one would think that they wouldn't drop a whole lot. I don't see the them going to much below $50.

Frankly, that is just to much for a handheld. Half the time I don't want to pay that for a console game. Will it be to much for you?

The PS Vita looks awesome but the prices already have me shying away from getting it. And don't get me wrong, I am that with the DS as well. I feel the games on there are a little overpriced as well. Which is why I don't buy any DS games anymore.

iPhone 4S At A Glance

on Wednesday, 05 October 2011. Posted in Platforms, iDevices

I should have probably wrote about this yesterday already but I was a little disappointed with what Apple was serving up. I just feel they sat back and kissed the competitor's ass for innovating. Granted, not much innovation. But, Apple just seemed to take what everyone else already had and put it in their phone.

There are a few things that I am happy about. The first being keeping with the 4's design. I absolutely love the design. Bitch all you want but I haven't had one problem with it.

But, there are a good things coming for the gamers. Which I will talk about. All the specs are not released yet as far as I can tell but we do know that it has a dual core processor and a dual core graphics or something like that. So essentially, the 4S is twice as powerful as the 4. According to Apple, the graphics are 7 times more powerful than the current offering.

Gamers should be jizzing in their pants right about now.  I am not quite one of them. The main reason is that 3d graphics suck on the iPhone.

  1. These are cheap games so they won't go all out.
  2. They truly can't go all out.
  3. The platform only has a 3.5in screen(4 is still probably to small for ambitious graphics).
But all games should be zippier and more responsive. Which is a huge plus. Let's just hope the developer's don't decide to get lazy because frankly most have already been pretty lazy.

Platforms, where would we be without them. They allow us to play all the glorious games that we seek. And, platforms only run platform specific games. Such is life.
