PS Vita Japanese Game Pricing: Should You Be Worried?

on Tuesday, 11 October 2011. Posted in Platforms, Vita

The PS Vita looks like it could be an amazing handheld. No doubt about that. But, the price will always come into play and especially so for a handheld.

Luckily, you can get a little bit of an idea on the pricing as some of the Japan release details have been released for some of the games. I am not going to bother putting it in Yen as we don't use such a currency. The USD equivalent will be given.

The good news for some is that the PSN downloads should be cheaper than the hard copy of the game. This difference is usually in the ballpark of around $5-7 cheaper. Which is pretty good.

Unfortunately, these Vita games seem to be expensive. Uncharted Golden Abyss will sell for $78 or $64 PSN. Katamari Damacy no Vita will be going for $65 or $58 on PSN.

One has to remember that these prices are probably going to change when they hit American shores. But, one would think that they wouldn't drop a whole lot. I don't see the them going to much below $50.

Frankly, that is just to much for a handheld. Half the time I don't want to pay that for a console game. Will it be to much for you?

The PS Vita looks awesome but the prices already have me shying away from getting it. And don't get me wrong, I am that with the DS as well. I feel the games on there are a little overpriced as well. Which is why I don't buy any DS games anymore.

Revealed: Playstation Vita

From Sony's table, they also revealed a new console. They revealed a portable console though. And this portable console has been floating around the rumor sphere for quite a while. Actually, I like to refer to it as the industries greatedst secret.

For awhile, it was known as the NGP. Now, it has been revealed as the Vita. I know, dumb name. I guess it is not terrible. Two syllables makes it quick and easy. I suppose it is better than Wii U.

My first impression, another PSP. Yes, it looks that similar. Sony is starting to become Nintendo in their release of portables. I guess it doesn't look bad though.

The significant portions are the upgrades. First, this version has two screens. Both capacitive and multitouch at that. The front is a 5 inch OLED screen. A standard screen for todays society apart from the size. Well, the rear one isn't so much a screen as a touch pad. Interesting concept but I just can't see it being all that significant when it comes to gaming. It just seems like it would be more of a hassle.

This portable has has dual cameras. There is the normal back one and a front one. As of right now, I don't know the specifics so I really won't go to far in critiquing them. Not really all that helpful for gaming though in my opinion. However, devices these days seem to need to be good at other things apart from their core purpose.

I am kind of surprised to see that the Vita is sporting a 4 core processor. But alas, that is all I can really comment on that.

The biggest thing that I found is that is the supposed always connected. This just means that you can connect to a data network from a cell phone provider. However, as of right now the sole provider is AT&T. This may be a bad thing. Everyone seems to hate AT&T. I really haven't had any problems with them so I won't comment to farther on that. But, it is a surprising move since AT&T is not the fan favorite for networks.

I have never been a big fan of the PSP. So, I am not all that stoked about the the new variation. I keep wanting something to get me back into real portable gaming but I just keep getting let down.
