Wii U

Revealed: Wii U

The most likely biggest news for Nintendo is the reveal of their new console, the Wii U. There had been rumors and such of this console prior to their reveal. However, a lot of new info and pictures and such.

Now, as you will probably notice if you pay attention at all is that a lot of the news is centered around the controller. Yes, that thing is just a controller. That isn't the console so quit acting like it is the only thing that matters. Nintendo is stressing this more than anything so it is easy to see why this logic is transpiring.

The CONTROLLER is NOT the SYSTEM!

Ok, that is out of the way now. I would love to have a whole bunch of bull to talk about the console. However, so far what has been said is all good news from my point. HD visuals finally. Looks like there will be some sort of hard drive support. Use of a HDMI capable is finally a reality.

Most of the news is centered around the controller. Before I start knocking it, you should know at least some of the details. It has a touch screen, the normal controller controls, and the ability to play games off of the screen on the controller instead of the screen.

Alright, Nintendo fanboys beware. I am going to lay in this controller hard. Why? Cause every other console has had to deal with it. Well maybe not every other but when a new design for the controller is revealed, criticism is rampant. That is of course if you are Nintendo. For instance, the N64 controller was the worst controller I have ever used. But for whatever reason, everybody loved it.

The first and should be noticeable is that it is fricking huge. No, f*cking huge. People bitched about the original XBox controller. That was small potatoes. Granted, that controller was a lot thicker.

Second, it is flat. This is the Nintendo console that is supposed to appease to hardcore gamers that game for multiple hours at a crack. I am sorry, any normal hardcore game is going to make this controller hell.

The touch screen kind of sucks as well. We live in an age where touch screen has been improved upon significantly. It is a pleasure to use touch screen. Yet, Nintendo decided to use old school tech that, at least for me, would make the touchscreen a burden. The screen by everything I have read is resistive. Today we are accustomed to capacitive. A drastic improvement in my opinion. Also, the screen heavily relies on a stylus. The stylus is nice for some things but should not be a near requirement.

Otherwise, if you can look past all that this controller might be somewhat nice. But, the new Wii will be compatible with the old Wii controllers. So you won't be at a complete lost if the new controller is a loss to you.

Before I get off of this topic, there are rumors that this controller will be expensive. I am not so sure. It will be more expensive than the current controllers. If not, well I won't go there. However, I don't think it will be to outrageously expensive. You are paying for a wireless controller that has a pretty old style screen. I think it might go around for a midrange cellphone price under contract.

There you have it, my $.02.
